The Florida Highway Patrol found for the driver and passenger of an SUV who left a second passenger to die after crashing into trees early Friday morning.

Oscar Lopez-Yesca, 22, of Wimauma was arrested and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, driving without a license involving a death, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.

At 1:04 a.m., troopers responded to an accident near the intersection of U.S. 301 and Bishop Road in the Wimauma area, south of Sun City Center.

The FHP reports a 2004 GMC Yukon traveling southbound on U.S. 301 rotated and left the highway. The SUV collided with several trees before stopping.

Lopez-Yesca, the Yukon's driver, and his passenger, ran away from the crash scene on foot.

A second male passenger suffered fatal injuries in the crash and died at the scene.

The Florida Highway Patrol does not know if the accident was alcohol-related.

Just before 8:00 a.m., troopers located Lopez-Yesca and passenger in nearby woods.

Other charges are possible against the driver and possibly the passenger.
