A 27-year-old woman was arrested after deputies say she broke into a coworker's home to try to kill her husband with a machete.

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office says Alana Gibson of Maine broke in through a window and attacked a man while he was sleeping next to his wife, Gibson's coworker.

The man reportedly had lacerations to his head, chest, arms and legs from the machete.

According to an affidavit, Gibson had become increasingly attached to the coworker and wanted her to leave her husband to run away with her and date her.

The coworker tried to intervene before being momentarily strangled by Gibson before she escaped and left the home.

Multiple weapons were found at the scene, including the machete, an axe and a bow and arrow.

She was apprehended in Charlotte County and said in an interview she was en route to a job interview in Maine but decided to first stop in Venice to try to convince her coworker to run away with her.

Gibson was charged with armed burglary of an occupied dwelling, battery and attempted murder.
