SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Traffic engineers in Manatee and Sarasota Counties are planning for the future of traffic. They are taking input for engineers and residents about what the roads should look like 20 years from now. Engineers said the population of the area will grow by more than 25 percent by 2040.

“The traffic keeps increasing in these areas,” said Planning Manager Leigh Holt.

Holt said they are concerned about the Desoto Bridge, Highway 41, and the Anna Maria Island Bridge.

Kafi Benz has lived in the area for more than 20 years. She said the traffic gets worse each year.

“I get around by using back roads and things like that and now you’ve doubled the time that it takes you to get from point A to point B,” said Benz.

Planners have until 2020 to submit a twenty year plan. You can voice your opinion by emailing mpo@mympo.org
