BRADENTON, Fla. — Officers are investigating after a toddler was hit and killed by a car in an apartment complex parking lot Tuesday morning.

The Bradenton Police Department said they responded to the Citrus Meadows Apartment Complex shortly before 8 a.m. after receiving a report about a crash involving a pedestrian.

Upon arrival, they found a 23-month-old toddler had been hit by a car in the parking lot. Officers began performing life-savings measures until EMS arrived and transported the toddler to Manatee Memorial Hospital. Officers said the toddler later died at the hospital.

According to the investigation, the toddler was waiting by the family car in the parking lot with his siblings when he walked off between cars and fell into the path of the moving car.

Speed and driver impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call Sergeant Sean O'Leary at (941) 932-9300.
