Sarasota County Sheriff's deputies are investigating after a teenager was hit by a car while biking to school on Wednesday morning.
Officials say that a 15-year-old Pine View student was hit by a car just before 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
The crash happened on Old Venice Road just down the street from Pine View School in Osprey. Benjamin Nicholson was riding his bike southbound on Old Venice Road and attempted to cross to the east to get to the school. A vehicle traveling northbound struck the teen on his bike.
Officials have not stated the extent of injuries at this time but have confirmed that the teen was transported by Bayflight to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg.
No charges have been filed at this time.
Staff members at Pine View said this incident serves as an important reminder.
"School is starting please slow down and if your student is riding a bike please wear a helmet," said Dr. Stephen Covert.
