Susan Schorpen, the mother of the Sarasota girl who was was abducted, raped, and murdered back in 2004, died on Monday, according to the Polk County Medical Examiner.

Schorpen and her family entered the national media spotlight when the horrible tragedy occurred to her daughter, Carlie Brucia.
Joseph Smith was sentenced to death for the murder of Brucia. Media from around the country came to Sarasota to cover the tragedy.
Since her death, Schorpen's life went on a downward spiral, that loved ones attribute to the grief of losing her daughter.
Details have not yet been released on the cause of Schorpen's death but foul play is not suspected.
