MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — Manatee County investigators are looking into how a man was able to find a child’s phone number. Investigators said 48-year-old Andrew Amundson started texting a 10-year-old earlier this month. The child eventually told their father, who contacted police.
“Parents just have to be very aware of who their children are talking to,” said MCSO spokesperson Dave Bristow.
Bristow said a detective took over the child’s phone and started texting with Amundson. An arrest report shows Amundson said, "do you understand that I’m 48 baby, I want you so bad.”
Bristow said Amundson isn’t telling investigators how he got the child’s number.
Investigators were looking into the possibility that Amundson found the number through customer cell records at the Sarasota Best Buy store where he worked, but have since ruled that out.
