SARASOTA COUNTY, Fla. — Sarasota Police said a man is in custody and facing an aggravated battery with a firearm charge after a shooting over Memorial Day weekend.
The department announced the arrest of 23-year-old Nevaun Chamberlain on Tuesday. The shooting took place on Sunday, just after 5 p.m., in the 1800 block of 34th St., near the intersection of John Rivers St.
Police said the victim, who is not being named, was shot in the abdomen. They took themselves to the hospital before police arrived at the scene and have since been released, police said.
Police did not provide information on what led up to the shooting but said Chamberlain stayed at the scene and called 911 to report it at the time it happened. The department said the case didn't qualify as justifiable use of deadly force.
Chamberlain is out on bond.
