SIESTA KEY, Fla. — A person was taken to the hospital after being bitten by a shark in waters south off Siesta Key on Tuesday.
According to Sarasota County Emergency Services, the Sarasota County Fire Department responded to a shark bite call around 8:24 a.m.
The bite happened in the 7100 block of Point of Rock Circle on Siesta Key, according to emergency services.
A spokesperson tells ABC Action News, the victim was transported to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The condition of the patient has not been released.
Siesta Key hasn't had an unprovoked shark bite since 2007. It was also the last time there was a shark bite in Sarasota County, according to Tyler Bowling, Manager of Florida Program for Shark Research.
According to the Florida Museum, Sarasota County has a recorded seven shark bites since 1882.
