Driver in 2015 fatal Manatee County crash arrested, charged with DWI manslaughter

More than a year later, the driver involved in a fatal crash in Manatee County has been arrested and charged in the accident. 

Nancy Spurlock, 46, of Bradenton, was booked into the Manatee County jail on Thursday, November 17 and charged with DWI Manslaughter, Vehicular Homicide, three counts of DWI Serious bodily injury and three counts of Reckless driving causing serious bodily injury. Spurlock will make her first appearance on Friday, November 18 at 1 p.m.

On March 28, 2015, Spurlock was traveling southbound on US 19 in the left inside lane approaching Palm View Road. At the same time, Barbara J. Carvis, 51, of Pinellas Park, was driving a 2001 Chevy Suburban with three small children in the vehicle, traveling northbound on US 19 in the inside left lane just north of Palm View Road. Spurlock lost control of her 2001 Dodge Ram van and traveled into the center grass median and into the northbound left lane of US 19. The Dodge ram van struck the left side of the Chevy suburban. The collision caused the suburban to rotate counterclockwise and come to a final resting place in the outside right lane of US 19.

Carvis died from her injuries. The three children in the vehicle were transported to All Children's Hospital for serious injuries.
