Hit-and-run driver leaves Bradenton teen in ditch with critical injuries

State troopers are looking for the driver who left a 19-year-old seriously injured in a Bradenton neighborhood on Sunday night, officials say.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Johnnie Schoolfield, of Bradenton, was walking north on 12th Street East when the left mirror of an unknown vehicle driving southbound hit him in the head. This happened on Sunday night just before 9 p.m. in front of the home located at 5942 12th Street East.

Schoolfield suffered critical injuries and came to a final rest in a ditch located on the east side of the roadway. 

The vehicle and the driver drove off in an unknown direction of travel.
