A 50-year-old man armed with a knife was fatally shot Sunday afternoon after law enforcement responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at his home, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Marc Stoddart had cut his wrists and was outside his home at 4813 Bookelia Circle in Bradenton when deputies arrived. According to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office, Stoddart refused to drop the knife and “came at” a deputy in a threatening manner, leading the deputy to open fire.

His wife reported the domestic disturbance about 4:50 p.m. Deputies say she reported that her husband had been drinking, had armed himself with the knife and was threatening to harm her and himself.

The deputy involved in the shooting will be put on administrative leave while the incident is investigated, which is routine in officer-involved shootings.
