People in Winter Haven got a wild, early wake-up call when multiple gun-shots went off followed by a loud thud.

What they heard was the sound of a man getting shot and killed and then the car he was driving smack into the back of an apartment.

The car never broke through the wall and it did not cause any significant damage.

Laurie Smith lives next-door and started calling for help in the middle of the gunfire.

“I don’t know I stopped counting at three. At three I was calling 9-1-1,” she said.

She recalls hearing a loud voice of a man yelling at the victim.

“It was like ‘get up, get up!’ It was angry, like yelling at someone like in the pulp fiction movies,” she said.

The victim is identified as Jimmie Rogers, Jr. He was rushed to the hospital where he later died.

The shooter is still on the run.

“Take ownership for what happened. There’s just no reason why any of this should of happened. He’s too good of a person to be going through something like this. I just need justice to be served,” said Thomas Whitest, Roger’s brother who arrived in town late Friday afternoon.

Winter Haven Police are now offering a $3,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
