A Lakeland man faces drug charges after he walked into the Lakeland Police station, used heroin then passed out.

Police said Samuel Alicea, 35, entered the station to use the public restroom in the front lobby at 7:44 on Friday.

As short time later, officers at the front desk heard a loud “thump” sound come from the restroom.

Concerned for the man's safety, officers knocked on the door several times and yelled out for a reply, but Alicea did not respond.

Officers used a key to unlock the door and discovered Alicea on the floor.  He was unconscious and unresponsive.

Alicea left measuring spoons, small plastic baggies and a syringe on the sink.

He was also bleeding from the arm.  Officers stated it appeared Alicea had just injected himself.

He was transported to Lakeland Regional Health.

The syringe tested positive for heroin.

Alicea is now out of the hospital and in jail charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.
