A Lake Wales man told authorities that he had a problem and was glad detectives arrested him after he attempted to molest a young girl.

Lake Wales Police Detectives began investigating Michael Holt, 53, on Thursday after allegations that he had recently attempted to molest a 10-year-old girl, who authorities noted is not related to him.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Holt, while nude, attempted to coerce the child into touching his genitals. The child refused and left the residence. On Friday, detectives located and arrested Holt at his home on South 8th Street in Lake Wales.

During an interview after his arrest, Holt claimed that he was ashamed of what he did and called his actions "stupid". He admitted to detectives that he did attempt to get the child to touch him inappropriately as he pleasured himself. He also told authorities that this occurred on one other occasion. "Holt said he had a problem and was glad detectives had arrested him," Lake Wales Police Detectives wrote in a press release.

Detectives charged Holt with two counts of lewd or lascivious exhibition, a second-degree felony. He was transported to the Polk County jail.

This is a very serious crime and detectives would like to identify if there are any other possible victims. Please contact Detective Jonathan Fletcher at 678-4223 ext. 590 with any information. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-8477.
