ABC Action News has learned that Brandy Szanyi, 15, has passed away due to complications from the flu.
You may remember our story about the Lakeland teen in early March when her family reached out to country music star, Tracy Lawrence, inviting him to stop by and lift her spirits while she was in the hospital.
On March 17, Tracy followed through with the request and visited Brandy and her family in the hospital before his Tampa concert.

Brandy underwent multiple surgeries and the flu attacked her organs. She was a student at Tenoroc High School in Lakeland.
Lawrence released a statement on Szanyi's passing Friday afternoon:
"I woke this morning to the news that Brandy had passed. My heart is broken for her parents, sister and loved ones. Losing Brandy hits very close to home being I have a daughter her age. I hope the Szanyi's find peace in this difficult time and know that their beautiful daughter is now watching over them."
Funeral plans have not been released at this time.
