A man in a stolen car died after rolling the car across two properties and being ejected.

Polk County Deputies stopped the vehicle for speeding in the area of Kathleen Road and Duff Road around 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

Deputies ran the plate and verified that it was a stolen vehicle out of Alachua County.  As a backup sheriff’s deputy arrived, Rodrick Childs, 31, from Gainesville took off in the stolen car.

Eight minutes later, Childs crossed into oncoming traffic on Duff Road and crashed into another car driven by Raul Cervantes, 75, of Lakeland.

Childs was ejected from the vehicle after flipping the car across two yards and coming to a rest near a home. No damage was done structurally to the home.

Cervantes and his wife who was riding in the passenger's seat were not hurt.

According to police, Childs was a habitual traffic offender and his license had been suspended in October, 2014.
