A 5-year-old boy was killed in a traffic crash in Lakeland on Monday, June 18.
Aryel Moody, 28, was driving a 2004 white Nissan Altima eastbound on Mall Hill Drive when she attempted to turn left onto Grand Bay Circle. When turning, Moody turned into the path of a 1998 Ford Mustang, traveling westbound. The Mustang, driven by Nikolas Lonnen, 25, crashed into the passenger side of the Nissan.
Lakeland Police, Lakeland Fire, and Polk County Fire Rescue responded to the crash and began life-saving measures. Moody, along with the four passengers in the Altima, were transported to Lakeland Regional Health.
Aron Jones, 5, was riding in the rear passenger seat at the time of the crash. He died from his injuries at the hospital.
The Lakeland Police Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
