LAKELAND,Fla. — A man in Lakeland is in critical condition with an "extremely poor" prognosis after a late night accident, according to the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies say 27-year-old Michael Duey suffered a serious brain injury and a fractured right leg when he was hit by a car on January 3. Duey was walking on eastbound Highway 92 around 3 a.m. when he was hit by Mireya Bautista, 19, who was on her way home from work.

Duey hit the front windshield of the car and rolled over the roof before landing back in the road, according to authorities. Deputies say Bautista pulled over and stayed on the scene. She will not face any charges for the accident.

Duey was taken to Lakeland Regional Hospital where he remains.
