LAKE WALES, Fla. -- One person was killed and two others injured Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Lake Wales. The accident occurred just before 1:00 p.m. in the 2100 block of State Road 60 East.

According to the Lake Wales Police Department, 51-year-old Donis Enrique Perez Villacinda was traveling west when he lost control of his vehicle causing a passenger in the front seat to be partially ejected. Police say Jose Perez Ordonez was wearing a seatbelt. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

A second passenger, 43-year-old Miguel Ruiz of Lake Wales, was ejected from the back seat onto the roadway. He was airlifted by helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center in serious condition.

The westbound lanes of State Road 60 were closed for several hours as crime scene technicians collected evidence.

Villacinda, a Polk County resident, was transported to Lake Wales Medical Center where he was treated for minor injuries and released.

Deputies arrested Villacinda and transported to the Polk County Jail where he is facing one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a Valid Driver’s License and one count of Causing a Crash that Resulted in a Death.

The official cause of the crash is still under investigation. Police say alcohol may have played a factor. If you have any information about the accident, please contact Officer Robertson with Lake Wales Police Department at (863) 678-4223, ext. 258.
