A Polk County woman is accused of stealing $11,000 from a George Jenkins High School booster club.

Heather Debellis, 45, of Lakeland stole the money while working as treasurer of the school’s choral booster club, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

Debellis, who had the club’s checkbook, wrote checks out to herself and her 72-year-old grandmother and forged the club president’s signature on them, deputies said. The alleged thefts occurred between May 2015 and April 2016.

None of the money went to Debellis’ mother, deputies said, and her mother never knew about the checks.

Debellis faces charges that include scheming to defraud, grand theft and seven counts of forgery.
