After hitting the 11-year-old, the suspect, 66-year-old Pierre Carmelo Jacinthe, left the scene in a dark-colored Toyota 4-Runner. PCSO said he turned himself into the Davenport Police Department around 10: 45 a.m.

The 11-year-old, per PCSO, suffered a broken leg and was transported to a hospital to be treated. Officials said the child is expected to make a full recovery.

PCSO said Jacinthe told officers he hit the child on accident and fled the scene because he panicked. Jacinthe also said he hid his car in his garage where detectives later found it.

According to PCSO, Jacinthe is charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries and tampering with evidence.
