ST PETERSBURG, Fla. -- When you think about going to camp, summer time often comes to mind. However, there is a winter camp taking place in St. Pete that’s giving kids a creative outlet while they’re off school during the holidays.
“It’s like an art camp and you get to experience new things that you haven’t experienced before,” said Lia Postle, one of several children, ages 5-12, participating in the Practically Pikasso Winter Camp.
“It’s really important to keep the kids' minds stimulate. There is so much television, screen time, with the tablets and phones and stuff that kids have today, so it really is important that they are using their hands and using their minds,” said owner Lynn Webb.
Being a mom herself, Webb knows it can be tough when parents go back to work, and the kids remain on vacation.
“That’s the time of year that they start to get a little stir crazy, they’ve been off for a couple weeks and they need to get out of the house and get a creative outlet,” said Webb.
It’s non-stop for the whole day, from one activity to the next.
“I’ve always liked art and I never found a camp until I came here,” said camper Vivianna Sidor.
Many of the projects they are working on are winter themed, for instance making snowmen that are melting.
“Probably wasn’t a good idea for him to visit Florida,” said camper Samuel Hagner. “He brought his earmuffs and stuff and that made him a little too warm.”
