St. Pete police seek robbers after violent home invasion

St. Petersburg police need your help identifying three armed men who attacked an older couple during a home invasion robbery.

The crime occurred about 1:20 p.m. Monday in the area of 25th Avenue and 26th Street.

The group of men, who may be in their late teens or early twenties, knocked on the door of the home, police said.

Ljubisa Kupusovic translating for his father says around noon Monday, three men forced their way into his home at gunpoint.

“He said he couldn’t fight them because they all had guns,” said Kupusovic.

When the 65-year-old resident answered, one of them struck him in the head and pushed him to the floor, police said. Another one of the men forced the man’s 76-year-old wife to the floor and struck her in the face.

The robbers took money from the home and ran away east on 24th Avenue North.

Surveillance cameras captured video of the suspects running away. Police said a vehicle, possibly a gray 2005 Ford Escape, was seen circling in the video and possibly dropped the suspects off.
