Safeway opens in Largo

Posted
A new grocery chain in Florida brings 400 jobs in three different areas.

Safeway took over three Albertsons locations in Largo, Altamonte Springs and Oakland Park.

Safeway had a grand opening last week in Largo, that brought sales to shoppers.

Just for U is a savings tool offer for shoppers to find various coupons. The free app will provide digital coupons and personalized deals, according to a press release.

The new stores will also offer grocery delivery.

The Largo location has fresh produce and juice, bulk foods, offers natural and organics and a hot food bar.

The chain is comparable to Publix.

ABC Action News did price comparison on 5 everyday items and found a three dollar difference in savings at Safeway.

However, Publix did offer some better options, for example, a box of Captain Crunch cereal was a BOGO deal. Safeway was full price at $5.99.

Shoppers at Safeway say they love the prices of meats, including shell fish.

As far as more sale items, Safeway had some outstanding deals like $0.99 for 18 eggs.
