ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Police have taken an armed robbery suspect accused of shooting a St. Pete Family Dollar employee into custody.
Terrian Javon Knight, 29, surrendered to police after more than eight hours. Police say most of that time was spent hiding in a retention pond within a fenced-in lot.
Authorities say it started just after 10 p.m. Tuesday at the Family Dollar located at 1701 4th St. S.
The suspect reportedly entered the store and shot an employee. That employee sustained non-life threatening injuries and is already out of the hospital.
The suspect ran from the scene and officers confined him to a field near the store.
A number of streets in the area were blocked off and residents in the area were advised to stay indoors if possible and stay away from the scene.
St. Pete Police, Pinellas Sheriff's Office, SWAT, K9 and aviation units responded to the scene.
