LARGO, Fla. — Officers say a man is paralyzed from the waist down after a Pinellas woman shot him in the back over $10.

Officers say 52-year-old Thersea Simmons shot the victim when he asked her for $10 she owed him after he gave her a ride.

The victim walked towards Simmons' bedroom to ask for the money, officers say. When Simmons opened the door, the victim says she was holding a small handgun.

The victim turned around and walked away from Simmons when she held up the gun and shot him in the middle of his back. Officers say three other people in the home witnessed the shooting.

Officers say at this time, the victim is paralyzed from his waist down because of the shooting.

Simmons is facing a felony charge of attempted murder in the second degree.
