A Largo man was caught in the act of stealing mail from a post office drop box Friday, police say, a crime he’s accused of committing at least eight previous times.

Gustavo Eduardo Nunez Suarez, 33, deposited a $4,000 check he previously stole from the mail, according to the Largo Police Department.

Suarez was arrested while law enforcement conducted late-night surveillance outside the Largo Municipal Post Office at 50 Eighth Ave. N.W.

He accessed the drop box by “defeating” its security, police said in a statement without giving particulars. Police said he was taken into custody by detectives while getting into the box.

More evidence was found at his home in Pinellas County, police said.

He faces a felony scheming to defraud.
