It was reported that a vehicle struck the bicyclist and fled the scene. Witnesses were able to follow the vehicle and officials were able to locate the fleeing vehicle.

Through an investigation, it was determined that the bicyclist, 60-year-old John Turley, was riding across US 19 attempting to cross the roadway. While crossing, a vehicle driven by Timothy Manzi, 50, hit the bicyclist.

Manzi failed to remain on the scene after the crash and was located by responding officers and was taken into custody.

Turley was transported to a local hospital in serious, but stable condition.

Manzi and his two passengers did not suffer any injuries after the crash.

Manzi was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury and driving on a suspended license.

It is believed alcohol was a factor in the crash and charges are pending against Turley for the DUI.
