A man who sexually battered a 5-year-old tried to flee to Mexico, but was extradited back to the United States and arrested in Pinellas County.

The incident occurred on Nov. 14, 2015 at a private residence in Pinellas County. The investigation began when the 5-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with injuries consistent with sexual battery.

She told her mother she had inappropriate sexual activity with the suspect, 42-year-old Domingo Maye, someone she knew.

When detectives tried to locate Maye, they found that he had gone to his hometown near Mexico City, Mexico.

They got a Pinellas County warrant, and with the help of the FBI, were able to contact Maye and convince him to surrender to FBI agents in Mexico City.

He was extradited to the United States, where he confessed to the sexual battery allegations, and was arrested on Wednesday.

Maye was charged with two counts of Capital Sexual Battery on a Child Under 12.
