Pinellas County deputy commits suicide at St. Petersburg College in Largo

Pinellas County detectives are investigating the death of an off-duty sergeant.

According to the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Michael Borland, 44, shot himself in the parking lot of the St. Petersburg College Veterinary Technology Center located at 12376 Ulmerton Road in Largo. 

Sgt. Borland's body was discovered around 9 a.m next to his cruiser on Monday.

Investigators ruled his death a suicide.

He has been with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office since 1996.
 
Action News has learned Borland's wife is also a sergeant at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office.
