LARGO, Fla. — A 24-year-old woman was charged with aggravated child abuse on Thursday.

Officials say they were notified of a 3-month-old who was admitted to All Children's Hospital for unexplained injuries.

The child was brought in by Evelyn Lopez-Fleites, 24, after he began having seizures.

Investigators learned the victim had several brain bleeds and multiple retinal hemorrhages consistent with abusive trauma.

Detectives interviewed Lopez-Fleites and noted there were inconsistencies in her explanations of the injuries.

On Oct. 21, Lopez-Fleites was interviewed by detectives in Largo.

Detectives said she intentionally picked up the child and shook him in a back and forth motion of frustration because the baby was crying.

Lopez-Fleites was charged with aggravated child abuse and transported to the Pinellas County Jail without incident.

The child is still in the hospital with serious injuries.

This is an ongoing investigation.
