Each day a person driving a vehicle hits a power line, putting them in grave danger of being seriously burned or injured, even killed. That's according to a spokesperson for Duke Energy.
As part of national Safety Month, Duke Energy provided safety experts to demonstrate how to exit a vehicle safely.
The first thing: never get out of a vehicle unless it is on fire or harmful chemicals are seen.
Second: if you must exit make sure you exit the vehicle by jumping out of the car or truck with your feet together.
Next, you want to shuffle your feet in a continuing motion until you are at least 30 feet away from the vehicle.
The biggest mistake people make are keeping your hands touching the car while you put one foot onto the pavement or street.
