'He was bored': Man arrested after driving on the beach, police say

CLEARWATER, Fla. — A man was arrested after police said a man drove on the beach Saturday afternoon.

Clearwater police said John McGarry, 25, was behind the wheel of a 2020 Outlander traveling north when he was first spotted.

He refused to stop for officers and took off at speeds of about 25 mph on the sand.

He was eventually stopped in the parking lot of the Sheraton Sand Key as he tried to make it back to Gulf Blvd.

McGarry faces charges of reckless driving, resisting arrest without violence and driving with a suspended license.

Multiple people called police to say he was driving on the beach.

He told officers who stopped him that he was bored.

He was taken to the Pinellas County Jail.
