One person is dead and one is in serious condition after an early morning crash in Pinellas County.

At approximately 1:52 a.m., officers with the Pinellas Park Police Department responded to a crash on US-19 NB just north of Mainlands Boulevard.

Police say a four-door vehicle was traveling faster than the speed limit in an active construction zone on US-19.

The vehicle failed to slow down for a dump truck ahead in the same lane and the vehicle crashed into the back of the dump truck. The dump truck was carrying a load of more than 21 tons and the driver of the four-door vehicle was killed on impact. The right front seat passenger suffered serious injuries and was transported to Bayfront hospital where they remain in serious/guarded condition.

US-19 NB at Mainlands Blvd. is currently closed as police investigate the crash.
