A 47-year-old St. Petersburg man is accused of kidnapping his girlfriend and then ripping her hair out.

Dexter Young, of 711 36th Avenue South Street, is now charged with burglary with assault and battery and kidnapping.

Police say Young showed up at a home on 12 Street South around 8 a.m. Sunday and gained entrance through an unlocked door.

Once inside the home, police say Young broke a mirror with his fist and then went after his girlfriend who was hiding in a bathroom.

According to an arrest affidavit, Young hit his girlfriend multiple times in the face and body and then dragged her out of the home by her hair into his taxi.

The woman was reportedly forced into the taxi where Young continued beating her, police say.

Police say the woman was able to escape and jumped into the passenger side of a witness's car.

Young then jumped into the back seat of that car and once again grabbed his girlfriend by the hair and tried dragging her from the car, an arrest affidavit states.

The witness then drove off as the woman was pulled out of the car.

The woman lost multiple pieces of hair and had a torn scalp, police said.
