Craig Wall was sentenced to death Friday for the 2010 murders of his girlfriend and their 5-week-old son.
After receiving his sentence in a Pinellas County courtroom, Wall reportedly responded, “Woohoo.”
Wall had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder of Laura Taft and no contest to a first-degree murder of Craig Wall Jr., their child.
The sentence is the result of lengthy negotiations with prosecutors after he offered to plead guilty to Taft’s murder if he could receive guaranteed death.
Wall represented himself during the penalty phase of his case.
According to the sentencing order, the court determined his presentation was “tantamount to little or no mitigation” and appointed him counsel to present his case during the penalty phase.
Earlier in his case, Wall had told the judge, “I alone will have to face the consequences of my actions. I will be sitting in Old Sparky, i.e., the electric chair, all by myself.”
