Clearwater Police detectives are asking for the public's help in identifying a man who robbed a convenience store and struck the clerk in the head with the cash drawer.

The robbery occurred just after 5 a.m. at the Speedway convenience store at 2577 Harn Blvd on Thursday, according to detectives.

When the suspect entered the store and demanded money, the male clerk refused. That's when the suspect grabbed the cash drawer and tried to leave. As the clerk tried to detain the suspect at the door he was struck in the head with the cash drawer.

The 56-year-old clerk was taken to Morton Plant Hospital and treated for a minor head injury.

The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic male with a thin build, about 5 feet 10 inches tall. He was wearing gray pants, a green hooded sweatshirt, with a green shirt over his face.

He is not believed to the same suspect involved in recent robberies at Walmart and 7-Eleven.
