CLEARWATER, Fla. -- Tampa Bay’s parks and beaches are about to be highlighted on the national scale.

“While I’m outside doing something, all my cares kind of drift away. So that’s really my release and my downtime, and there is really no better place to do it than here,” said Clearwater native Misty Wells.

Wells first picked up the fishing rod because it was a fun hobby. It's led to a lifetime of outdoor memories from wrestling alligators, to scuba diving, to catching fish almost as big as she is.

“This is some of the best fishing you can find anywhere in the state of Florida and in my opinion the world,” said Wells.

After documenting her adventures on the local level, Wells was asked by Fox Sports to host her own show, “Let’s take it Outside,” set to debut in January.

“I never dreamed in a million years that that would lead to something like this, where I’m leading the charge for women in the outdoors, and doing a show on TV, honestly it’s really surreal,” said Wells.

She said two main goals of the show will be to highlight all there is to do in the Tampa-St. Pete-Clearwater area. Many of the episodes will be shot right in her own backyard.

“It’s just a dream come true because how often do you get to represent what your passion is and represent your home town and your area? So I’m very proud to be born and raised right here in Clearwater,” said Wells.

Her other goal is to reel in more young girls and women to the outdoor scene.

“I really just want them to have the self confidence to say, ‘that looks really interesting, that looks fun and I sure would love to learn how to do that.’ So I really hope that it opens the door for lots of people,” said Wells.
