ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A 50-year-old man was arrested and charged with sexual battery of a child under 12 on Thursday, officials said.
Detectives said the crimes happened between September 2019 and January 2020.
Detectives learned the victim had been sexually battered while she was in contact with 50-year-old Alfred Mahoney.
The victim reported to a family member that Mahoney sexually battered her, detectives said.
Investigators said a family member took the victim to a local hospital and they notified law enforcement.
Through the investigation, detectives developed probable cause to arrest Mahoney.
Mahoney was arrested and transported to the Pinellas County Jail on Thursday. He was charged with capital sexual battery of a child less than 12.
This is an ongoing investigation.
