PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — Locks and security aren't always enough to keep thieves from snatching summer fun from campers.

A vehicle was caught on security camera stealing a 30-foot Coleman camper from a storage lot at Sawmill Campground. Deputies say it's just one of six trailers stolen in the county in the last few months.

"Four of them being campers, one a horse trailer and one a utility trailer," said Kerry Kempink, Pasco County detective.

Deputies say some of the campers, worth more than $45,000,  were taken from locked and secured areas.

"Obviously they're cutting the locks so maybe add more locks and make it a little more difficult for them," said Kempink.

Deputies are asking people to look out for a dark-colored SUV seen in the security video.

"A lot of these thefts appear to be occurring overnight, so if you see any of these things on the road in the evening and maybe it doesn't look right for the area, please call us at 1-800-706-2488," said Leslie Strube, Pasco County detective.

Deputies suggest taking an extra step to make sure your expensive trailer stays safe.

"I would say mostly if you flatten tires, they're not going to pull a trailer down the road with flattened tires," said Kempink.
