PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Pasco County pet shop is in murky water with some customers over the water bottles they had inside the cages for their small animals.

Kateland Erickson went to Pet City Saturday in Holiday to get food for her pet. As she walked past the cages for the small animals, she said she noticed something inside the water bottles. She says they had some sort of substance caked on the inside.

"I actually left and then came back and had taken a picture because I was so upset at the time, I couldn’t stop thinking about it,” she said.

The second trip was to snap photos of the water bottles.

“It was caked, and visibly green, like a dark green, caked, opaque. You can't even see through these bottles. These bottles are supposed be clear,” she said.

Monday, the pet shop owner let our cameras in to see the new water bottles they put out in response. They say the water is changed twice a day.

The owner says they’ve never had any issues like this before and the utmost care is taken of all of their animals.

"I think it’s good, that’s what I wanted. I wanted them to replace the bottle obviously but at the same time I want to know what they’re gonna do to make sure that that doesn’t happen again,” Erickson said.

The pet shop says while the water bottles could have been overlooked, they shouldn’t have been and they plan on making sure all their employees know how to properly clean them too.

Pasco County Animal Services told ABC Action News they got a complaint about the water bottles on Friday and plan on inspecting the shop Tuesday.

They say if someone has a concern about a pet store, they should call Animal services so they can investigate.
