PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A Brooksville man was killed early Sunday morning after he was hit by a vehicle following his own crash, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Quinten Perez, 23, lost control of his Toyota Tacoma and hit the center median guardrail on northbound I-75 just south of Blanton Road. It happened around 2 a.m.

The vehicle overturned and came to a rest in the middle of the road. Perez's passenger, 21-year-old Weston Reynolds, became trapped.

FHP says Perez was out of the vehicle trying to help Reynolds out when a Chevrolet Sonic hit him.

Perez was killed at the scene, according to FHP. Reynolds was airlifted to Bayonet Point with serious injuries.

FHP says the accident is not alcohol related. The driver of the second vehicle didn't see the initial crash scene and is not facing charges, FHP says.

The driver and passenger of the Sonic only suffered minor injuries.

I-75 was closed for nearly five hours following the accident.
