Bicyclist hit by ambulance in Pasco County, taken to hospital

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. — A bicyclist was hit by an ambulance in Pasco County Friday night.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. near the intersection of Fivay Road and Lakeside Woodlands Drive, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist identified as Katherine Stafford, 48, of Hudson, was taken by a second ambulance to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point.

According to the highway patrol, a marked Pasco County ambulance was heading northbound on Fivay Road , approaching Lakeside Woodlands Drive, At the same time, Stafford was riding a bicycle on Fivay Road in the same direction.

The ambulance driver, Bryan Ricks, 61, of Dade City, didn't see Stafford, who was wearing dark clothing and riding a bicycle with no lights as required by state law, the Florida Highway Patrol report said.

As a result, the ambulance's front, ride side mirror struck Stafford. She was throw onto the road and suffered serious injuries.
