Clearwater Police Department is warning people to lock their doors after a 16-year-old stole a car and crashed it, causing extensive damage.

They posted photos to Facebook with the caption beginning with "Here's what can happen to your car if you leave it unlocked with the keys inside it."

A Nissan Maxima was reported stolen out of Largo after it was left unlocked with the keys inside.

The teen crashed it at a high rate of speed into three different trees on Park Pl. just after 8:00 a.m.

Parts of the car went flying in multiple directions, and the driver climbed out the window and ran.

He was caught nearby by Clearwater PD, and was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital for minor injuries.
