TAMPA, Fla. — One Tampa high school senior is highlighting the impact of the alleged college prep exam scandal that's snared coaches, parents and actresses.

There were no shortcuts for Berkeley Prep Senior Nathan Lockhart, 17, who's now committed to a prestigious college.

"The college process has been a lot more selective recently,” said Lockhart.

Lockhart has the smarts.

"AP Government or AP Economics. I want to major in Economics,” said Lockhart.

And he's made the sacrifices.

"My friends or people in my grade would go out Friday night during the football season, after the game, but we have a game and then we have film Saturday morning at 10 if we win or 9 if we lose,” he explained.

Now, the Berkeley Preparatory School senior is committed to a college where he hopes to play division three football and lacrosse.

"It just happens that Amherst College was the best fit to play both,” he said. "It's possible, as long as you put in the work.”

How many deserving student athletes took the right path and still didn't make the cut?

"It's really exciting but at the same time, it's humbling because you realize that there's so many high school athletes across the country that don't get those chances,” said Lockhart.
