Tampa police search for driver who hit man in wheelchair, stopped and looked at him before fleeing

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a driver who hit a man in a wheelchair Sunday night.

The accident was at the intersection of Nebraska and Martin Luther King Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m.

A nearby surveillance camera captured a car leaving the intersection. The suspected vehicle is described as a white sedan with possible damage on the right/front due to the impact.

Witnesses told authorities that the man who was driving stopped, got out of the vehicle and looked at the man he hit before taking off. They described the driver as an African American male of medium height and weight, approximately 50 years of age.

A spokesperson for the department said the person in the wheelchair suffered serious injuries.
