Tampa Police looking for man who shot 7-Eleven clerk in Ybor City after stealing cigarettes

TAMPA, Fla. — Tampa police are searching for a man who stole cigarettes from a 7-11 in Ybor City then shot the clerk who chased after him.

About 5:30 a.m. Saturday, a man walked into the 7-Eleven at 1535 E. 7th Ave. in Tampa and took several packs of cigarettes, according to the police department.

One of the two clerks on duty ran after the suspect and chased him down in the 1600 block of 8th Avenue near the Classic Centro Ybor 10 movie complex.

After a confrontation, police say the suspect pulled a gun and shot the clerk three times.

The clerk was taken to the hospital with injuries that were non-life threatening.

The gunman was described as a black male, 5'10 to 6 foot. He was wearing a black, red, yellow and green styled cap. Along with a black jacket, black pants, and black and white shoes.

He was last seen on a bicycle near the area of 17th Street and 11th Avenue in Ybor City.
