Police: Tampa officers shoot, kill man who pointed gun in their direction

TAMPA, Fla. — A suspect has died after being shot by Tampa Police after they say he pointed a gun at officers.

Tampa police said they were dispatched to a report of a shots heard call in the 100 block of E. Flora St.

When officers arrived, they were attempting to locate the suspect, 20-year-old Derrick Everett.

They found a man in a backyard shed where he was ordered to show his hands. The man then turned and pointed a gun at officers.

One officer was a 19 year veteran, the other was a five year veteran.

The officers fired their weapons, hitting the suspect. Officials said multiple shots were fired.

Officials said officers began applying first aid and requested medical personnel.

Tampa Fire Rescue arrived and transported the man to a nearby hospital. He later died of his injuries.
