TAMPA, Fla. — More than 120 affordable housing units are coming to Tampa.
The University Area CDC is hoping to tackle housing issues with a program called land banking.
This particular new development will be called Uptown Sky.
The CDC is trying to buy neglected land within 1 mile of the new Harvest Hope Park to develop into new housing, or even place modular homes in.
The goal is to keep low-income or middle working class residents in the area.
Sarah Combs, CEO University of Area CDC, says "We want them to stay in this community where they have access to their jobs. They have access to their families and if not, then they get pushed out further and further and itm akes it harder for them to thrive."
The University Area CDC says they're committed to finding ways to build housing for lower income residents and is continuing to think of innovative ways to help.
